Saskatchewan Roughriders

Fantuz and Joseph win P.O.W.(Again)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders first trip to the Grey Cup in a decade has earned both Kerry Joseph and Andy more player of the week honours. Joseph was very efficient and played mistake-free football in guiding the Riders past the B.C. Lions in last Sunday's western final in game which featured no Saskatchewan turnovers. Fantuz hauled in his first career playoff touchdown catch in that victory.

Shivers Shows Class

For all the abuse yours truly has heaped on Roy Shivers in the last year and a half, I must tip my hat to the man who built this team which I fully expect to bring home the Grey Cup. Roy Shivers treatment of the Saskatchewan people was wrong when he labeled us all "a bunch of racists". However, Shiv gave Kent Austin his due in that recent Darrell Davis interview done with the Regina Leader Post. I still think Roy built the foundation for this to happen, however it was his unfortunate stubborness in sticking with Danny Barrett at head coach, which led to his downfall.

Hey Bay Street---Meet Main Street

CFL commissioner Marc Cohon said a couple of weeks ago that this year's Grey Cup would be a green Grey Cup--or an environmentally friendly Grey Cup. Message to Mr. Cohon...this indeed will be a green Grey Cup because the Rider Nation is ready to invade the self proclaimed center of the universe. It makes one wonder if the National Guard is ready. I wonder if Toronto even realizes what it is in for. Yonge Street will be awash in green. The Rider Nation will be everywhere you look. I wonder if the CN Tower will have a Rider flag flying atop it before the week is over.

Rider president and CEO Jim Hopson was on News Talk Radio shortly after the Western final to talk to me about the game, the season and the one hurdle that is left....

Will You Be In Toronto On Grey Cup Sunday

Toronto Bound

The Riders are off to the Grey Cup. They beat the BC Lions 26-17 at BC Place to earn their first berth in the CFL championship since the 1997 season when they were beaten by the Toronto Argonauts. Their opponent in this year's game will be the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Bombers upset the Argos in the East final.

Riders Win!
