The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that an arbitrator has ruled that B.C. Lions offensive lineman Jason Jimenez will be eligible to play in the West Final playoff game scheduled for Sunday, November 18, 2007.
The CFL Commissioner has imposed a one-game suspension on Mr. Jimenez for Rough Play resulting from what was ruled to be an illegal block on defensive lineman Anthony Gargiulo of the Calgary Stampeders during the Saturday, November 3 game at B.C. Place Stadium. The suspension was to be served during this Sunday’s West Final playoff game. Pursuant to the terms of the CFL - Canadian Football League Players' Association (CFLPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement, Mr. Jimenez and the CFLPA have requested an arbitrator to review the suspension.
On Thursday, the arbitrator heard an expedited request from Mr. Jimenez and the CFLPA to stay the suspension pending the outcome of the arbitration hearing. A similar request had been declined by the CFL. The arbitrator today released his decision to stay the suspension. This hearing will take place following the 2007 Grey Cup.
