Roughriders Adjust Roster

Sign One More Defensive End

The Saskatchewan Roughriders continue to bring in players to compete for the defensive end positions vacated by all-stars Stevie Baggs and John Chick.

The Riders signed defensive lineman Ikenna Ike out of Fresno State University. With the addition, the Riders released defensive back Carlos Armour and linebacker Jim Maxwell.

 

Aaron Wagner Tweets Retirement

Saskatchewan Roughrider linebacker Aaron Wagner announced his retirement on twitter today.

Wagner, who was traded to the Riders before the 2009 season, posted this on his twitter page at around 11:30 SSK time, "Today I officially Announced my retirement from Professional Football! Great Times,Great Fans,But most of all Great Teammates! Love U ALL"

Wagner dressed in eight games for the Riders in 2009 and had seven special teams tackles before missing the remainder of the year with an injury.

 

Rider License Plate Catches Eyes of Expats

To Rider fans, it's like late December.

Still a few days to go until Christmas, or in this case, until official Rider license plates are available.

Unfortunately, not every fan can have one.

Kim Hambleton with SGI says since the plates were announced, they've received about a dozen calls per day.  A bunch of those are coming from out of province.  Sadly, only Saskatchewan fans can grab the plate.

 

Riders Sign Top Pick

Williams Locks On

The Saskatchewan Roughriders made official the signing of the first overall pick in the 2010 CFL Draft.

Shomari Williams signed on with the Riders. Though details aren't known, it's expected Williams signed a three year deal with the Riders.

The Riders traded up in the draft to get the defensive end out of Queen's University.

The Riders also signed non-import linebacker Taylor Wallace. Wallace is a Unity, Saskatchewan product that played five years at the University of Saskatchewan.

It's a beacon of green and white in downtown Regina.

Giant Roughrider logos are going-up on the city's twin towers. Advertising agency Phoenix Group came up with the idea as a way to celebrate 100 years of Rider Pride.

 

Riders Select Williams 1st Overall

The Saskatchewan Roughriders selected Shomari Williams out of Queens University with the first overall selection in the 2010 CFL Draft. The Riders traded up to acquire the 25-year old defensive end/linebacker.

General Manager Brendan Taman says they were always impressed with Williams, both in terms of game film and interviews. Taman doesn't expect Williams to start right out of training camp but knows he'll contribute for a long time in the CFL.

Taman believes they will get Williams signed to a contract soon, it will likely be a three year deal.

 

Riders Swing Deal To Pick First

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are on the clock.

The Riders made a deal, multiple reports suggest, that would see Saskatchewan select first overall in the CFL Draft on Sunday.

The trade with the Toronto Argonauts has the Roughriders acquiring the 1st and 8th overall picks from Toronto. In return, the Argonauts receive the Roughriders first round picks (2nd and 4th overall) and veteran kicker/punter Jamie Boreham.

The Riders will likely draft Queen's linebacker Shomari Williams first overall.

 

Dinwiddie Confident He's Sask Bound

The Saskatchewan Roughriders appear to be closing in on signing former Blue Bomber quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie.

Dinwiddie tells News Talk Radio, he's had conversations with both General Manager Brendan Taman and Offensive Coordinator Doug Berry and they were both very positive. Dinwiddie was brought to the Canadian Football League when Taman was the General Manager in Winnipeg and Berry was the Head Coach.

 

Riders Add a Pair

Receiver and Defensive End Added

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added a pair of player for training camp in June.

Receiver/Kick Returner Jeremy Gilchrist has signed after a college career at Hampton and Virginia Tech. In both his junior and senior seasons, Gilchrist scored three touchdowns on kick returns along with good receiving stats. Gilchrist was with the Riders for a few weeks last season on the practice roster.

 

Riders Release Harrell

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the release of quarterback Graham Harrell and receiver Eric Morris.

Both players graduated from Texas Tech after the 2008 season, with Morris attending the 2009 training camp and Harrell being brought in mid-season as the fifth quarterback on the depth chart.

Harrell was a record setting quarterback in university but went undrafted and unsigned by the NFL.
