Posted June 13, 2010 - 10:20am

The Saskatchewan Roughriders began their pre-season schedule with a visit by the B.C. Lions.

At quarterback you didn't see a whole lot of starter Darian Durant. The majority of the snaps were taken by Ryan Dinwiddie and Cole Bergquist as Ken Miller and staff decide who will back up Durant on Week One.

The Riders were expected to dress around 70 players but will only play the returning starters on a limited basis. The Riders will use this preseason game to further evaluate the players that are fighting for roster spots.

Head Coach Ken Miller says the team will likely have three offensive tackles on the roster in the regular season and Johnson was fourth on the depth chart.

Shoes of Eddie Davis will be hard to fill

Saskatchewan Roughriders halfback Chris McKenzie looks to be the one that will take over from Eddie Davis.  He played a few games last year when Davis went down with injury, so the position isn't new to him.

McKenzie says there's no pressure taking over for a future hall of famer.

"Do I look like I'm pressured (big smile)?  If I can't do it, please get someone in who can.  I'm here to play a sport I love, to play happily and to the best of my ability and just keep on going."

Durant got the cast cut off in a sign that he was just playing a little prank on teammates and the fans in attendance, and all the blogs and forums that made the injury sound a lot worse than it actually was.

It's a battle the coaches are watching closely.  Who will be the starting running back for the 2010 saskatchewan Roughriders?

Wes Cates is looking to bounce back from an injury plagued season last year which he says was humbling.

"I definitely have to prove to those doubters that I'm not done.  Also prove to myself that I still have fuel in the tank and that I'm ready to go for a few more years."
