The Saskatchewan Roughriders have made their final cuts.

In all 22 players were released by the Roughriders, with two more put on the one game injured list, and three on the nine game injured list.

Of the cuts, the most notable is veteran defensive back Lance Frazier, who News Talk Radio confirmed Saturday wouldn't be back with the only CFL team he's ever played for.

"I told him 'hey, you have a bright future ahead of you'," said Head Coach Corey Chamblin. "He's probably toward the tail end of his football career, he probably still has a little bit left, but we gotta go in a direction where we can get a little more out of guys."

As for who will eventually replace Frazier in the secondary, Chamblin said the battle remains pretty wide open, and they will go with whoever does the best job over the next few weeks.

It also appears Quarterback Drew Willy has won the back up job behind Darian Durant.

"Right now, in my mind Drew (Willy) is still the two," said Chamblin. "He fought his way all the way through camp, he showed it in the Saskatoon green and white game, he showed it in BC, and he showed it last night (Friday night)."

Willy can't get to comfortable on the depth chart though, J.T. O'Sullivan has also made the team and Levi Brown is one of the guys who will start the year on the nine game injured list.

Another player on that list is offensive lineman Dan Goodspeed, but he won't be seen on the field again. Chamblin said that he will begin a transition into coaching, where he will be an assistant for offensive line coach Kris Sweet.

"I've known Dan (Goodspeed) for a while, and that's something he's expressed over the years," said Chamblin.

In all three offensive linemen were also released, but Chamblin expects at least one of them will end up on the practice roster. Chamblin also said that Chris Patrick is likely to start at right tackle this week against Hamilton.

It was also a good day for running back Kory Sheets, not only did he make the team, but Chamblin said that he will start the year as the teams number one running back.

The practice roster is expected to be released sometime Sunday afternoon.
