Superman won't be taking off this weekend for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Surprising just about no one, head coach Corey Chamblin confirmed on Thursday that Geroy Simon won't be playing in the regular season opener Saturday in Edmonton against the Eskimos.

"As far of conditioning he may be there," said Chamblin. "He won't go, that's for sure."

Chamblin went on to say that he didn't think Simon came close to meeting either his own or the teams benchmarks in terms of being able to play.

It's not really a surprising decision at all as Simon did not practice at all, opting only to run a few sprints and run up and down the east side stands a couple of times. Chamblin has often said if someone isn't out there during the third practice of the week, they won't go, and Simon isn't an exception this time around.

The coach isn't overly worried about Simon not being in the line-up.

"We have enough receivers where we're able to move on," said Chamblin. "We'd hope he would be able to play soon, but he's not."

There isn't a time line on Simon's return, so expect Simon watch 2013 to return next week as the team gets ready for the Calgary Stampeders.

All in all, there hasn't been a whole lot of game action for Simon to get used to his surroundings and his quarterback, but Chamblin isn't concerned.

"They've all been through training camp together," he said. "This week they probably didn't have enough reps together."

Look for Greg Carr to take Simon's place in the starting line-up.
